In the recent months the major networks have aired shows on shopping cart accidents and injuries to small children, including 20/20 Feb.3, Dateline, The Today’s Show, Good Morning America and even Oprah on 8/12 and 1/28. The consensus is that shopping carts are the contributing factor of injuries to children. In a recent 3 year period 75,000 children were seen in the emergency room for injuries sustained in shopping cart sand 74% of those injuries were to the head and neck.
I am a mom of 3 and I have invented/designed a product for consumers to keep with them so this problem can be curbed. Here are just a few of the reasons for the need for this product. The straps on shopping carts are not always available, are either broken or filthy, they sit too low and the buckles in the front so the older children can let themselves out.
The statistics are going up on shopping cart injuries, so this means the few products available to address this problem are not being used. I feel the simplicity of the baby comfort strap will cause parents to not only own their own protection but actually use it. The photo here is of my son Kyle who was my inspiration. Yes… he too has fallen from a cart and then…it fell on him, thank God he was all right. I am excited at the response of parents purchasing, using and calling me with feedback on how much they love the product!
